Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin that contributes to the maintenance of normal levels of calcium and phosphorus in the bloodstream.  It aids in the absorption of calcium, helping to form and maintain strong bones.  It is an essential vitamin for dogs as they cannot synthesize vitamin D.  Sources of vitamin D include milk, fish and egg yolks.
