Vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin.  It is the collective term for a family of eight chemically related substances:

tocopherols

  (alpha, beta, gamma, delta)

tocotrienols

  (alpha, beta, gamma, delta).

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that protects against the harmful effects of free radicals, which are unstable particles in the body.  It is also reported to have moderate anti-inflamatory properties.  Sources of vitamin E include whole grains, wheat germ, olive oil, spinach, nuts and seeds.
